Fall 2008 Travel Program Changes

The Fall 2008 soccer season will see changes for the Brookfield Soccer Club’s Travel teams and Travel Program.   These changes are in direct response to the Northwest District’s league reorganization. They will impact how teams are organized for competition and expand the opportunity for small-sided games.

NW District Reorganization

Change in Travel Brackets
The travel brackets have changed from Division I and II, to a single division with three brackets - A, B, and C.   This format will allow the district travel commissioner to promote or relegate teams to an appropriate level of competition when necessary.   It is expected that A teams will play NW District games on Sunday, and B and C teams will play NW District games on Saturday. Brookfield teams designated to play in the A and B brackets will receive additional professional training as previous Division I teams did. The cost of this additional training will be $60.

Small-sided Games Extended to U11 Age Bracket
Small-sided games (8v8), which previously included the U9 and U10 age brackets, have been extended to include the U11 age bracket.  As a result, the transition to the full-size field (11v11) will take place beginning at U12.   There are many benefits to small-sided games, and the Northwest District is one of the last districts in Connecticut to effect this change which follows the trend taking place across the country.

While the district changes do affect BSC teams, the formation of teams U9 through U14 and the competitive level of play will continue to be determined based on the number of players in an age group, and the results from the June try-outs.   The club remains intent on forming as many complete and competitively appropriate teams as possible, with the goal to provide every child in Brookfield with a place to play soccer.
